How to Care for Russian Hair Extensions: The Complete Guide

Beautiful hair is an investment, and like any investment, it rewards care. The good news? Russian Virgin hair is remarkably resilient โ€” because it's never been chemically stripped, it behaves like healthy natural hair. Follow these simple habits and your extensions will stay silky, glossy and tangle-free for years.

Use the right products

This is the single most important rule. Always use sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates strip moisture and dramatically shorten the life of your hair. Products our clients love include Redken All Soft, Juuce Hydrate Mask, Davines Hair Butter, Oribe, Pure Goddess and Moroccanoil. A weekly hydrating mask through the mid-lengths and ends keeps everything soft and supple.

Wash with intention

Shampoo at the roots and let the suds run through the lengths โ€” don't scrub or pile your hair on top of your head. Condition from the mid-lengths down, never directly on your bonds or wefts. Always rinse thoroughly.

Dry before you sleep

Never sleep on wet hair. Damp hair tangles and matts overnight, especially at the nape. Dry your hair fully, and sleep with it in a loose braid or wrapped in a silk scarf to prevent friction.

Be gentle with heat

Keep heat tools below 180ยฐC and always use a heat protectant. Premium hair styles beautifully and holds a curl โ€” you simply don't need extreme temperatures.

Brush the right way

Use a soft-bristle or loop brush designed for extensions. Start at the ends and work upward, supporting your roots with your other hand so you never tug at the attachment points.

Swimming and workouts

Before swimming, coat your hair in leave-in conditioner and tie it back โ€” then rinse as soon as you're out. For workouts, braid or tie hair low to reduce sweat and friction at the roots.

Keep your maintenance appointments

For wefts, book a move-up every 6โ€“8 weeks. As your natural hair grows, the attachment points need repositioning to stay comfortable and to protect your own hair. Skipping move-ups is the most common cause of avoidable damage.

The golden rule

Treat your extensions like the luxury they are, and they'll look after you in return. If you're ever unsure about a product or a routine, just ask โ€” we're always happy to help our clients protect their investment.
